John Aldridge: Liverpool need "five or six" quality summer signings

Former Liverpool striker believes that his former side need "five or six" quality signings this summer to maintain this season's progress.

Former Liverpool striker John Aldridge believes that the Reds need to strengthen their squad this summer if they want to maintain this season's progress.

Brendan Rodgers and his team suffered a major blow to their title hopes on Monday after letting a three-goal lead slip to draw 3-3 with Crystal Palace.

Aldridge told the Liverpool Echo: "I'm not going to name names but there are some players in the squad who simply aren't good enough.

"We need to get rid of the dead wood and bring in five or six quality players."

Liverpool host Newcastle in their final Premier League game on Sunday knowing that a win would ensure a second-placed finish to the season.
