Liverpool have recorded a 2-0 victory over Wolverhampton Wanderers in Sunday's Premier League clash at Anfield.

The Merseyside giants required maximum points against Wolves to retain any hope of winning the title, and Sadio Mane netted a goal in either half to see off the West Midlands outfit.

However, Manchester City's 4-1 triumph at Brighton & Hove Albion means that Liverpool miss out on ending their 29-year wait for the top-flight crown.

Find out how all of the action unfolded on Merseyside courtesy of Sports Mole's minute-by-minute updates below.

Hello and welcome to Sports Mole's live coverage of the match in the Premier League between Liverpool and Wolverhampton Wanderers. Manchester City will win the league title if they overcome Brighton & Hove Albion, but Liverpool must beat Wolves to keep their hopes alive. The two teams are making their way out at Anfield, so let's see who features in each starting lineup...

LIVERPOOL XI: Alisson; Alexander-Arnold, Matip, Van Dijk, Robertson; Henderson, Fabinho, Wijnaldum; Mane, Origi, Salah

LIVERPOOL SUBSTITUTES: Mignolet, Gomez, Lovren, Milner, Oxlade-Chamberlain, Shaqiri, Sturridge

WOLVERHAMPTON WANDERERS XI: Patricio; Bennett, Coady, Boly; Doherty, Dendoncker, Moutinho, Neves, Jonny; Jimenez, Jota

WOLVERHAMPTON WANDERERS SUBSTITUTES: Ruddy, Kilman, Vinagre, Gibbs-White, Traore, Cavaleiro, Costa

KICKOFF:  Liverpool get us underway!

The home side are already looking to assert themselves in this game. Wolves have been left with eight men behind the ball and their forwards isolated. Liverpool have had about 90% of possession so far.

SHOT!  The first shot of the game comes from Origi, who holds off Coady before getting a volley on goal. However, the Belgian's strike goes straight at Patricio.

I don't think Wolves have reached the final third yet. Liverpool are dominating without looking a threat every time they launch an attack.

More of the same from the home side who are content with keeping Wolves away from the ball. The visitors are equally satisfied with reducing the space for Liverpool's front six.

You don't normally expect this kind of patience from Liverpool. They are setting the pace as usual, but they are focusing as much attention of testing Wolves's discipline.

LATEST! The game between Brighton & Hove Albion and Manchester City also remains goalless. Remember that you can follow that fixture by clicking here.

Wolves finally put something together going forward, but Jonny is unable to find either of Jimenez or Jota to his right. Every Wolves touch is being greeted by boos from the home supporters.

GOAL!  LIVERPOOL 1-0 WOLVERHAMPTON WANDERERS (SADIO MANE)

GOAL!  Liverpool make the breakthrough! Alexander-Arnold gets down the right and delivers a low cross into the area, which is deflected by Boly into the path of Mane. The winger had time to take a touch but he instead fired the ball into the net from six yards out.

The pressure is now on Man City, but Liverpool will remain focused on trying to score a second. Wolves are not playing to their usual high standards.

Dendoncker gets down the right for Wolves and the Belgian has options inside the area. However, the midfielder's floated cross is comfortably claimed by Alisson.

Wolves are definitely having more joy in the Liverpool half of the pitch, but it may be an attempt from Liverpool to draw their opponents out.

SHOT!  Liverpool hit back down the left-hand side, with Robertson trying his luck from 20 yards. It's a well-struck effort, but Patricio makes a good save to his left.

LATEST! There has been a goal at the Amex Stadium...and Brighton & Hove Albion are beating Manchester City!!! Glenn Murray has got the goal. It is very much game on as far as the title is concerned...

LATEST! Manchester City have equalised almost immediately! Sergio Aguero is the player to find the back of the net. Click here if you wish to follow that game.

Back to this match and not a whole lot is happening right now. There was a stoppage in play, and neither team have really put anything together going forward.

Liverpool have probably needed to take stock of what has been happening elsewhere. There were false cheers for a Brighton goal before they actually scored, and the reaction of the crowd was enough to suggest to their team that City had equalised. It has all gone a bit flat now.

SHOT!  Wolves manage to clear a cross to the edge of the area where Salah is waiting, but the Egyptian sends a volley harmlessly over the crossbar.

The visitors have a throw-in in a threatening position, and Benett takes responsibility for a long throw. Boly gets the initial flick on, but Jimenez's shot is blocked.

LATEST! Man City have taken the lead at the Amex Stadium, with Laporte the man on target. As it stands, City will win the title. Liverpool need the performances of all performances from Brighton over the remaining 51 minutes.

Liverpool are still seeing most of the ball. The home side must have had at least 70% of possession. Wolves are yet to have a shot on goal.

I think that both teams are relatively content to see half time. There's very little pace to the game.

OFF THE BAR!  Maybe not! Jonny breaks down the left and a low pass finds its way over to the advancing Doherty. The wing-back takes on a first-time shot from 20 yards, and hits the top of the crossbar.

There will be one minute of added-on time.

HALF TIME:  Liverpool 1-0 Wolverhampton Wanderers

The half-time whistle goes at Anfield and Liverpool lead thanks to Mane's close-range effort. The home side have dominated, although Wolves did hit the woodwork just before the break. Klopp's side still need a favour though, or this match will end in an anti-climax.

Here's a quick reminder of the two benches...

LIVERPOOL SUBSTITUTES: Mignolet, Gomez, Lovren, Milner, Oxlade-Chamberlain, Shaqiri, Sturridge

WOLVERHAMPTON WANDERERS SUBSTITUTES: Ruddy, Kilman, Vinagre, Gibbs-White, Traore, Cavaleiro, Costa

The two teams are making their way back out at Anfield. It doesn't look like any changes have been made.

KICKOFF:  Wolves get us back underway.

Liverpool go straight onto the front foot, and a foul from Boly on Salah leads to the home side getting a free kick on the edge of the area.

SHOT!  The set piece suits a left footer, but Alexander-Arnold attempts to catch Patricio off-guard. The wing-back gets good pace on his strike, but it curls into the side-netting.

YELLOW CARD!  Bennett is the first player to be cautioned after a cynical trip on Mane.

YELLOW CARD!  Now Jota goes into the book for a foul on Fabinho, despite clearly getting the ball.

Liverpool have been the better side since the restart, but Wolves carry much more of a threat as well. You get the impression that Nuno was not impressed with his team's first-half performance.

A long raking pass from Coady puts Doherty in behind Robertson, but the Irishman cannot find Jimenez in the middle. That was a chance.

Jimenez goes down clutching his ankle and rolls back onto the pitch for treatment. The Liverpool supporters don't like it, but it probably helps them! Van Dijk is lucky to avoid a yellow because he stood on the Mexican, albeit accidentally.

Fabinho now avoids a yellow for a lunge on Jimenez in the middle of the pitch. Wolves have had a few decisions go against them in this second half.

SHOT!  What a waste. Wolves put together another well-constructed move in the final third and Jimenez finds himself on the right-hand side of the area. However, the forward slices a shot well wide of the near post.

It has to be said, there is very little atmosphere at Anfield. The home supporters appear to be resigned that Man City are going to hold onto their 2-1 advantage over Brighton.

CHANCE!  Liverpool almost score a second. The ball falls invitingly for Origi around 12 yards out, and the Belgian should score. However, the forward's volley on the turn goes over the crossbar.

SUBSTITUTION! That proves to be Origi's last contribution, with Milner coming on in his place.

LATEST! It's going to prove irrelevant, you would think. Man City have extended their advantage over Brighton through Mahrez. That could be that.

CHANCE!  Almost an equaliser for Wolves. A superb pass from Doherty finds its way through to Jota, who only has Alisson to beat from 14 yards. However, the goalkeeper comes out to make a very good block.

The home supporters are attempting to lift their side. There is an acceptance that the title race is probably done and dusted, but they still want to close the season with three more points.

Nuno deserves credit for holding off on his substitutions. The Wolves boss has treated this situation regarding the title race with respect.

CHANCE!  Yet another chance for Wolves and Jota. The forward is provided with the chance to get a header on goal from 12 yards, but he cannot get enough pace on his effort.

LATEST! Man City are soon to be crowned Premier League champions. Gundogan has put Guardiola's side 4-1 up at the Amex Stadium.

Very little is happening in this match now. You'd expect Klopp to protect a couple of his players ahead of the Champions League final. Nuno may opt to hand an opportunity to the likes of Kilman and Gibbs-White.

A lengthy spell of possession leads to Liverpool winning a corner on the right. The block came from Coady, who has been excellent for the visitors.

SUBSTITUTION! Wolves make their first alteration with Traore coming on for Doherty.

GOAL!  LIVERPOOL 2-0 WOLVERHAMPTON WANDERERS (SADIO MANE)

GOAL!  Liverpool double their lead and effectively wrap up the three points. Another Alexander-Arnold cross finds Mane, who directs a header into the far bottom corner from 10 yards out.

OFF THE BAR!  Alexander-Arnold nearly provides another assist with his cross finding Van Dijk, but the defender's looping header hits the top of the crossbar.

SUBSTITUTIONS! Here comes three changes in a row. Wolves make two, with Vinagre and Gibbs-White replacing Jonny and Moutinho. Liverpool make the one as Gomez replaces Robertson.

To their credit, Liverpool are finishing this game really strongly. However, Wolves are still posing a threat down both flanks.

SUBSTITUTION! Liverpool make a final switch as Oxlade-Chamberlain replaces Wijnaldum.

There will be just two minutes of added-on time.

FULL TIME:  Liverpool 2-0 Wolverhampton Wanderers

The full-time whistle goes at Anfield and Liverpool kept their end of the bargain by beating Wolves by a 2-0 scoreline. However, Manchester City's 4-1 win over Brighton & Hove Albion means that Klopp's side miss out on the Premier League title by one point. Liverpool knew that they were outsiders heading into this afternoon, but it will still leave the club hugely frustrated.

That will be all from Sports Mole for this match. Thank you for joining us this afternoon, and we hope that you can stick around for all of the reaction.
