Martin Skrtel: 'We sent a message to Premier League rivals'

Liverpool defender Martin Skrtel says that his team's 4-0 victory over Fulham at Anfield this afternoon has proven that the Reds are ready to fight for the title.

Martin Skrtel believes that Liverpool's 4-0 demolition of Fulham sends a firm statement of intent to the Reds' Premier League rivals.

The Slovakian bagged his team's second of the afternoon to add to Fernando Amorebieta's earlier own goal, before Luis Suarez struck twice to provide the perfect riposte to last week's 2-0 defeat to Arsenal.

Consequently Brendan Rodgers's men move up to second in England's top flight and Skrtel is adamant that the rest of the division caught a glimpse of the team's title credentials this afternoon.

Speaking to Sky Sports News, the defender said: "We wanted to send a message - we are here and we are ready to fight. We are happy with the three points today.

"We wanted to keep a high tempo. Even after the first half and it was 3-0, we wanted to play our game."

Liverpool make the short trip to Goodison Park in a fortnight for the Merseyside derby with Everton, with the international break halting the domestic calendar next week.
