Sami Hyypia named Leverkusen boss

Former Liverpool centre-back Sami Hyypia has been named the new manager of Bayer Leverkusen.

The 38-year-old has been promoted from his role as reserve coach with the German club.

Leverkusen decided to sack Robin Dutt yesterday following a run of form that has seen them lose their last four league matches.

Hyypia will share the role with youth team coach Sascha Lewandowski until the end of the campaign.

Hyypia ended his playing career with Leverkusen in 2011.
