Mohamed Salah record: How Liverpool star can eclipse Alan Shearer, Didier Drogba in Chelsea Premier League clash

Salah on verge of breaking Drogba and Shearer records when Reds play Chelsea

Mohamed Salah could break or equal the record for goal involvements in a Premier League season, as well as the record for goals scored aged 30 or older in a season, when Liverpool play Chelsea on Sunday.

The Reds were crowned champions last weekend when they beat Tottenham Hotspur 5-1 at Anfield, winning their second title in the Premier League era.

Boss Arne Slot has confirmed that he will make changes to his starting lineups in the final four matchweeks of the campaign, but talisman Salah is certain to feature in all four games.

The Egyptian has scored 28 goals and registered 18 assists in the top-flight this term, and he needs just one goal or one assist against Chelsea on Sunday to equal the record for goal involvements in one season, held by Andrew Cole in 1993-94 and Alan Shearer in 1994-95.

Salah also needs just one more goal to equal the record for goals scored by players aged 30 or older in a Premier League season, currently held by Didier Drogba for Chelsea in the 2009-10 season (29).

Where does Salah rank amongst Premier League legends?

Should Salah produce three more assists in his final four matches of 2024-25, he will break the record for the most in a single Premier League season ever, surpassing Kevin De Bruyne and Thierry Henry.

Salah's exploits in front of goal have at times clouded the fact he is an excellent creator, with the Egyptian's total of 87 Premier League assists the 10th most in the division's history.

While claiming Erling Haaland's record of 36 top-flight goals will almost certainly be beyond the 32-year-old's capabilities, he is likely to win his fourth Golden Boot, a feat that only Henry can match.

After winning his second Premier League title with Liverpool, Salah has now won the same number of titles as Henry, who is seen by many as the division's greatest ever player.

Though it is difficult to compare the two stars due to the fact they featured in different eras of football, there is no doubting that Salah should rank among the league's finest attackers.

It should also be noted that the 32-year-old needs to add just three more goals to his tally of 185 in the Premier League to climb to fourth in the all-time scoring charts, and he needs 23 goals to match third-placed Wayne Rooney.
