Rodgers backs Aspas to find form

Liverpool manager Brendan Rodgers believes that Iago Aspas will find his goalscoring form following a disappointing start to his career on Merseyside.

The Spaniard scored three goals in pre-season, but has yet to find the back of the net in a competitive fixture for the Reds.

The former Celta Vigo forward's lacklustre form during Liverpool's 1-0 defeat to Southampton on Saturday resulted in him being substituted at the half-time interval.

"There's no doubt it's been difficult," the Liverpool Echo quotes Rodgers as saying.

"When you are the player who scores goals, you want that goal to give you that confidence and obviously he hasn't got that yet.

"[Aspas is] a good guy, he's working hard and trying his best so hopefully over time he'll get his goals and make the impact we think he can."

Liverpool are due to take on Manchester United in a League Cup clash on Wednesday.
