Mamadou Sakho: "I'm a Liverpool soldier"

Mamadou Sakho insists that he is a Liverpool "soldier" and will fight his way back into the first team.

Mamadou Sakho has insisted that he will not give up trying to force his way back into the Liverpool first team following his first start this season in last night's Europa League action.

The Frenchman, who has been dropped in favour of Dejan Lovren in the Premier League, impressed at the back during the Reds' 1-1 draw against Bordeaux on Thursday.

Despite Brendan Rodgers not playing Sakho on a regular basis, the Merseyside outfit are reportedly keen to keep hold of the defender, who was captain for last night's game.

"I'm always ready," Sakho told L'Equipe. "I'm working and I'm a Liverpool soldier, and, when you call on me, I always rise to the challenge."

This weekend, Liverpool will face Norwich City at Anfield.
