Dejan Lovren: 'I criticise myself after making mistakes'

Liverpool defender Dejan Lovren reveals that he does not talk to anyone for "a couple of days" after making mistakes at the back.

Liverpool defender Dejan Lovren has revealed that he does not talk to anyone for "a couple of days" after making mistakes at the back.

The Croatian, who has been a regular feature at the back for the Reds since joining from Southampton in 2014, has often been criticised for a lack of composure in Jurgen Klopp's team.

Lovren has revealed, however, that he is his own biggest critic when featuring for the Merseyside club.

"I'm my biggest critic of myself when I make mistakes," the 28-year-old told Sky Sports News. "I don't talk to anyone for a couple of days - this is me. This is the punishment for myself.

"What do other people think? I'm not bothered. What's important is what the manager says because he is the man in charge of me. If he's positive about me then that's confirmation for myself that I'm one of the best defenders in the Premier League.

"When you go 18 games unbeaten people will say 'wow he's really good' but when you make mistakes they will point the finger at the back four."

Lovren could feature alongside Virgil van Dijk against former club Southampton on Sunday afternoon, after the Dutchman's switch from the Saints in January.
