Rickie Lambert: 'Goal will change everything for Mario Balotelli'

Liverpool striker Rickie Lambert believes that scoring their first goals for the club will change everything for him and teammate Mario Balotelli.

Liverpool striker Rickie Lambert is adamant that he and Mario Balotelli just need to find the net once to start firing for the Reds this season.

The Italy international and the 32-year-old have both failed to find the net for Brendan Rodgers's side following their summer moves to Anfield.

Balotelli has come under serious criticism for his displays this season, but Lambert is confident that a goal will change everything for the duo.

"If it goes in off your backside it doesn't matter once it goes in. That's what a striker needs - just one to go in and they'll start coming, then the confidence flows," Lambert told reporters.

"Mario's like myself, we just need to get a goal. He's been unlucky with a couple of chances. Obviously you want to hit the ground running and you want to score.

"The longer it goes, the harder it is. It depends how you are mentally. If you are ok and you stay calm - and sometimes that is hard to do - I'm confident it will come."

Liverpool are seventh in the Premier League with 14 points from nine games.
