The High Court has ordered for a new inquest into the Hillsborough disaster after deciding to quash the original "accidental" verdicts made following the death of 96 Liverpool supporters.
Attorney General Dominic Grieve requested that the verdicts, which were given 23 years ago, be overturned following the damning evidence found by the Hillsborough Independent Panel, who revealed that police statements were altered in order to place blame onto the supporters attending the FA Cup semi-final in 1989.
The report revealed that a mixture of safety issues and incompetence by the authorities led to the death of the Reds fans, whose families have been campaigning for justice since the tragedy.
The Lord Chief Justice Lord Judge and two other judges in London heard today in court that there was sufficient medical evidence to suggest that justice had not been done and decided to order fresh inquests into the disaster.
The news comes on the day that Home Secretary Theresa May ordered a new police investigation into the deaths of the Liverpool fans.
