Liverpool Under-18s boss Steven Gerrard confirms that he has held "positive talks" with Rangers over succeeding Graeme Murty as their next manager.

Steven Gerrard has revealed that he is interested in taking his first job in senior management with Rangers after holding discussions with the Scottish club.

The Gers are on the lookout for a new manager after confirming on Tuesday morning that interim boss Graeme Murty has left Ibrox, two days on from the 5-0 thrashing at the hands of Celtic.

Liverpool legend Gerrard, who is currently employed by the Reds as Under-18s chief - a position that he has held since last summer - has now been formally approached by Rangers to succeed Murty in the dugout.

Asked about the speculation linking him with the position, Gerrard told BT Sport: "Yeah there's truth in the rumours. I've held initial talks with Rangers and the plan is to pick them up in a couple of days time. We'll see [if it happens].

"Yeah there is [an interest], as I said I've held positive talks with them. The plan, obviously I'm busy for a couple of days now, but I'll pick it up on Thursday and see if I can progress it."

Reports in the British press suggest that Rangers have offered Gerrard a three-year contract, which could be signed before the end of the week once his punditry duties are complete.
