Gerrard backs Liverpool to prove critics wrong

Former Liverpool captain Steven Gerrard has backed the team to prove their critics wrong during upcoming matches against Manchester United and Tottenham Hotspur.

The Reds' next two Premier League outings after the international break come against the in-form duo, both of whom are in the top three of the table.

Liverpool, by contrast, have won just one of their last seven matches across all competitions, but their record against direct rivals under Jurgen Klopp is enough for Gerrard to believe they will regain their best form after the break.

"I cannot wait for those two games because watching Liverpool since Jurgen has come in they are the games where Liverpool seem to prove everyone wrong and put in top-class performances," he told Sky Sports News.

"I think their record against the top sides is the best so if I was a Liverpool player or the Liverpool manager, those games can't come quick enough.

"The frustrating thing for Liverpool at the moment is the international break after a couple of games where they feel they should have done better."

Liverpool are already seven points adrift of the two Manchester clubs after just seven games.
