Hello, and welcome to Sports Mole's live coverage of the match in the EFL Cup second round between Burton Albion and Liverpool.

We are only a couple of weeks into the new season and we are already getting the cup fixtures that throw up the possibility of an upset. There may just be one division separating Burton and Liverpool but that does not tell the whole story with Burton having enjoyed a phenomenal rise from non-league football to the Championship over the course of the past decade. They are still very much a minnow and tonight, they get their chance to host one of the biggest clubs in the world.

To give you a little more perspective about the size of Burton Albion - they had never previously entered this competition seven years ago. It was FA Trophy games and the preliminary rounds of the FA Cup for them, at the same time that Liverpool were trying to winning a sixth European Cup.

Don't think we are writing Burton Albion off because we are not. In fact, they have previous for causing a surprise against big clubs on their home turf. Ten years ago last January - when they were still competing in what was then known as the Football Conference - Burton held a Manchester United side that included both Wayne Rooney and Cristiano Ronaldo to a goalless draw. Shocks do happen and I'm sure the locals have been reminiscing about that memorable Sunday afternoon in the build-up to this fixture.

Anyway, without further ado, let's take a look at the two starting lineups. Jurgen Klopp suggested that he would make changes but "not seven or eight". Has he kept his word?

BURTON ALBION XI: Bywater, McFadzean, Williamson, Beavon, Akins, Dyer, Butcher, McCrory, Naylor, Choudbury, Irvine

BURTON ALBION SUBSTITUTES: McLaughlin, Turner, O'Grady, Palmer, Fox, Harness, Delaney

LIVERPOOL XI: Mignolet, Clyne, Lovren, Matip, Milner, Henderson, Can, Lallana, Firmino, Mane, Origi

LIVERPOOL SUBSTITUTES: Manninger, Klavan, Moreno, Stewart, Wijnaldum, Ings, Sturridge

We'll get to the Burton team a bit later but Klopp has made a total of four alterations to the team that lost at Burnley on Saturday afternoon. Emre Can and Divock Origi have been included from the start, as have both Saido Mane and Joel Matip. Mane had been struggling with a shoulder injury so it will come as a relief that he is able to return so soon while Matip will be making his debut for the Merseyside giants.

Burton have made a total of five changes from the side that drew with Blackburn Rovers. It's a little bit of a surprise because I'm sure Clough is keen for his players to give at least a good account of themselves here but it's perhaps understandable given the greater importance of picking up a positive result against local rivals Derby County on Friday night.

What do we all make of that Liverpool starting lineup? It's stronger than I thought it would be. Each player is an established international, with four of them representing England at Euro 2016. I expected to see the likes of Kevin Stewart and Danny Ings given some minutes but the fact that Klopp has resisted the temptation to rotate his squad more than he has shows he is keen to win this competition.

There are 25,467 fixtures taking place in the EFL Cup this evening (I might be exaggerating) but there are also matches taking place in the Champions League and we have full text coverage of the second leg in Israel between Hapoel Be'er Sheva and Celtic. Earlier, we touched on the fact that Burton are currently competing in their first ever season in the Championship and it is fair to say it has been eventful so far. After losing a seven-goal thriller away at Nottingham Forest and conceding a 95th-winner to Bristol City, Burton bounced back with an excellent win over Sheffield Wednesday and a comeback draw at Blackburn Rovers. Even their opening-round tie in this competition went back-and-forth before they beat Bury by a 3-2 scoreline. The Brewers have scored and conceded in every game this season and who would back against that not continuing this evening?

A leading bookmaker has just posted on social media that in 2009, Burton were playing the likes of Histon, Weymouth and Salisbury City. Seven years later, they are looking forward to games against Liverpool, Aston Villa and Newcastle United. Their move up the league pyramid is similar to someone who cheats on Football Manager to see their side in with the big boys. There's been no cheating here, though. Burton have worked to tight budgets to get them to within one promotion away from the Premier League and while they will have no aspirations of achieving that this year, they at least get a taster of life in the promised land tonight.

PREDICTION! That theory is if Blackburn can score twice past Burton and Nottingham Forest can net four, Liverpool have every chance of doing the same, especially with the side that has been selected by Klopp. A full-house will roar Burton on during the opening stages but we are predicting that Liverpool's class will shine through and they will win this comfortably. Klopp's men to prevail 4-1.

Here comes the two teams to a warm reception from a crowd who are most certainly enjoying every moment of Liverpool being at the Pirelli Stadium.

Burton get us underway.

There have been a lot of stray passes in the opening few minutes but I suppose that is to be expected. Burton are carrying a few nerves and Liverpool are being pressurised when they gain possession.

There's almost a friendly feel to this contest right now. Neither side has attempted a shot and aside from a speculative penalty shout from Burton, We've had no excitement in the final third.

CHANCE! Big opportunity for Liverpool. Mane received the ball around 30 yards out before playing it through to Origi but although the Belgian had time and space, he fired straight at Bywater, who is making his debut for Burton this evening.

Burton pose their first real threat via a Williamson free kick that needs to be headed behind by Lovren. However, nothing comes from the resulting corner.

CHANCE! Liverpool are warming up now. A neat move ends with Lallana providing a pin-point cross for Firmino to direct a free header towards the corner of Bywater's net from 10 yards but the veteran stopper pulls an excellent save to his left.

It had been coming. Milner gets two bites of the cherry to get a cross in from the left and it finds Mane. The Senegalese attacker then glides past the defender before providing the cut-back for Origi who flicks the ball into the far corner from two yards. Liverpool look up for this.

CHANCE! Liverpool are creating chances at will and that's not good news for Burton Albion. An inswinging cross from Henderson finds Lallana at the back post but somehow, the wideman fails to get his close-range header on target. Big let-off for the home side.

This is going to be a long night for Burton. A poor throw out by Bywater finds a Liverpool man and Clyne is quickly released down the right. The England full-back wastes no time in crossing for Firmino who glances a fine header into the bottom corner. Easy.

I thought this might be quite the spectacle at least during the early stages but Liverpool have barely given Burton a kick. It's far from a damp squib but this isn't competitive in the slightest. Klopp read the riot act to his side at the weekend and it has worked.

Milner and Origi combine well down the left before the former England international crossed towards the back post but for once this evening, the final ball is lacking quality and Burton survive.

CHANCE! Almost a third for Liverpool and that would have been game, set and match. Mane is terrifying the Burton defence every time that he picks up the ball and on this occasion, a cross from the right finds Firmino in the box. However, the Brazilian can't direct the ball on target on the stretch from six yards.

Mane has just been barged over onto his shoulder. That ought to test the injury! He takes his time getting back to his feet but he seems to be alright to continue.

A little over five minutes to go in the first half of this game. There's not a lot happening right now. Liverpool are probing without forcing the play and Burton are content to sit back and try to reach the break facing just a two-goal deficit.

CHANCE! Burton finally fashion a chance - if you can call it that - but McFadzean's header from a free kick clears the crossbar by a few yards. Ironic cheers from the home supporters.

There will be one minute of added-on time.

The half-time whistle goes at the Pirelli Stadium and Liverpool are two goals to the good. They won't have an easier 45 minutes all season and it is difficult to see how Burton come back into this. Clough won't be happy with his team, despite the gulf on class.

Liverpool get us back underway. Clough has decided to withdraw Irvine for Matty Palmer. Will that alteration have any impact on this match?

It's an extremely quiet start to the second half. Burton don't exactly look eager to try to take the game by the scruff of the neck. Are they already thinking about Friday night and Derby County?

That's better from Burton. A few high balls into the box result in the Brewers winning a couple of corners but neither delivery can find a home player with Lovren and Matip heading clear.

The home supporters are definitely encouraged after seeing their side finally trouble the Liverpool backline. They won't want this match to peter out. Liverpool haven't really got going in this second half.

Liverpool have only had 36% of possession in this second half. That's in comparison to 69% during the opening 45 minutes. Klopp won't be happy.

If it wasn't game over before, it definitely is now. A corner from Milner is sent to the back post and as he tries to deny Can the chance of converting from close range, Naylor can only divert the ball into his own net.

SUBSTITUTIONS! Time for Liverpool's first chance and it's Wijnaldum coming on for Lallana. Seconds after his introduction, Sturridge replaces Firmino.

SUBSTITUTIONS! Two changes for Burton as well with Harness taking the place of Akins and Fox being introduced for his debut in place of Dyer.

Just before his departure, Akins blazed a fierce effort over the crossbar from an acute angle but it was never likely to beat Mignolet in the Liverpool goal.

This doesn't look good for Can. Just as he was about to dive into a challenge, his ankle gave him and he looks to be in a lot of pain. He's receiving treatment but I doubt he will be continuing in this match.

SHOT! Sturridge turns sharply on the edge of the box before getting a shot on target. It's lacking pace, however, and Bywater is bale to tip the ball wide. Stewart - who used to be at Burton - replaces Can.

Burton are still trying to play some attractive football against superior opposition but this match is very much over as a contest. The home side have a free kick around 40 yards from goal. The defenders are up.

An excellent ball towards the back post finds Naylor and his volley back across the six-yard are causes confusion. Unfortunately for Burton, Liverpool scramble the ball clear.

Liverpool were beginning to coast but they have netted a fourth. Mane plays in Milner and the left-back - who pops up in the right wing position - drills the ball across goal for Sturridge to tap home from two yards.

Liverpool have their fifth and this is all getting rather harsh on Burton. Mane has been terrific in this game and after advancing in-field from the right, he passes to Sturridge who turns on the edge of the box before firing into the bottom corner.

Origi has gone down with an injury so Liverpool are going to end this match with 10 men. They have already used all three substitutions.

There will be three minutes of added-on time.

The full-time whistle goes at the Pirelli Stadium and Liverpool are through to the third round of the EFL Cup with the easiest of victories. There will be bigger tests to come but Klopp will be delighted with his team's response after the defeat at Turf Moor.
