Jurgen Klopp: 'Mamadou Sakho's injury not as bad as first feared'

Jurgen Klopp insists that Mamadou Sakho's knee injury is not as "serious" as first feared, but will not give a timeline on the defender's return.

Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp has revealed that Mamadou Sakho's injury is not as "serious" as the club first feared.

The Frenchman was reportedly handed a six-to-eight-week layoff after suffering knee ligament damage in the Reds' 2-1 defeat to Crystal Palace on November 8.

In this afternoon's press conference, Klopp refused to offer a timeline of recovery for Sakho, but insisted that the injury is not as bad as first feared.

"Mama is good news," Klopp told reporters. "It's not that serious as we thought in the first moment.

"We don't want to give you a time - you can ask every day – but it's not Christmas 2016! So that's good. Between now and 2016! It's good news, it's not too serious."

Dejan Lovren is expected to play in defence during Sakho's absence.
