Liverpool midfielder Alexis Mac Allister is reportedly ruled out until at least January with the knee injury that he sustained earlier this month.

Liverpool midfielder Alexis Mac Allister will reportedly remain sidelined with a knee injury for the remainder of the year.

During the Premier League fixture at Sheffield United earlier this month, Mac Allister was forced into an early withdrawal after suffering a knock to the back of his knee.

Reflecting on the injury, manager Jurgen Klopp claimed that it was an issue that he was not familiar with, saying that a stud from a Sheffield United player had 'gone through the muscle and onto the bone'.

Klopp hinted that he hoped that a number of days of rest and recovery may help the 2022 World Cup winner come back into contention after missing the Manchester United fixture.

According to the Daily Mail, that will not necessarily be the case with the Argentina international expected to be sidelined until at least January, meaning that he would miss Saturday's showdown with Arsenal.

Ahead of Wednesday's EFL Cup quarter-final tie against West Ham United, assistant Pep Ljinders was quizzed on the situation, saying that the summer arrival had made progress in recent days.

Ljinders said: "Alexis is progressing well, he doesn't have pain anymore, which is a good thing.

"It was worse than we first thought, but he is progressing well, no pain. Let's see if we can progress him."

The 24-year-old has been a regular fixture in the side since his switch from Brighton & Hove Albion, making a total of 15 starts and three substitute outings in all competitions.

Liverpool are also likely to be without Ryan Gravenberch for Wednesday's contest with the Hammers due to the issue that he sustained against Manchester United at the weekend.

However, rather than the injury being a hamstring-related one as suspected, Ljinders has stated that it was instead to do with fatigue, and that the Dutchman is due to return to training.

In comparison to his frustrating time at Bayern Munich, Gravenberch has been used regularly by Klopp, with 11 starts and eight substitute outings being made by the former Ajax youngster.

Meanwhile, Ben Doak has been ruled out in the long term with a serious knee injury sustained during a second-string fixture at the weekend.
