Liverpool forward Diogo Jota's injury 'worse than first feared'

Diogo Jota injury 'worse than first feared'

Liverpool have reportedly been handed a blow by the news that the ankle injury sustained by Diogo Jota against Inter Milan is worse than first feared.

The Portugal international was withdrawn at half time, with manager Jurgen Klopp indicating that he had little choice but to replace the forward because his ankle was swollen.

At the time, no indication was given to how serious the injury could be, but it appears that it is more severe than Liverpool had initially anticipated.

According to The Mirror, scans have revealed that Jota will be absent for at least the short term, putting his participating in the EFL Cup final in some doubt.

That game is scheduled to take place on February 27, with Liverpool playing host to Norwich City and Leeds United before that showpiece.

Klopp will update the media on Jota's condition and chances of playing in that game at his pre-match press conference on Friday.
