Liverpool team news: Injury, suspension list vs. Aston Villa

Liverpool injury, suspension list vs. Aston Villa

Liverpool will endeavour to record their third Premier League victory on the bounce when they host Aston Villa at Anfield on Sunday.

Jurgen Klopp's side were ostensibly down and out against Newcastle United last weekend, as Anthony Gordon opened the scoring before Virgil van Dijk was ejected from the field of play.

However, super sub Darwin Nunez came off the bench to fire Liverpool to an unexpected 2-1 win, moving the unbeaten Reds onto seven points from their opening three games of the new term.

Here, Sports Mole rounds up Liverpool's latest injury and suspension news ahead of their clash with Unai Emery's men, who strolled past Burnley 3-1 last weekend.

Ibrahima Konate

Status: Out Type of injury: Unspecified Possible return date: September 16 (vs. Wolverhampton Wanderers)

Ibrahima Konate was unable to take part in the Newcastle victory due to an unspecified problem, and Klopp has conceded that the Frenchman will be out until after the international break.

Thiago Alcantara

Status: Out Type of injury: Hip Possible return date: September 16 (vs. Wolverhampton Wanderers)

Thiago Alcantara is in the final stages of his recovery from his serious hip injury and has been put through his paces in training, but due to a recent setback, he will also sit out the visit of the Lions.

Curtis Jones

Status: Minor doubt Type of injury: Ankle Possible return date: September 3 (vs. Aston Villa)

On a brighter note, Curtis Jones is on the cusp of returning from an ankle concern and has a strong chance of being involved on Sunday.

LIVERPOOL'S SUSPENSION LIST

Virgil van Dijk

Possible return date: September 16 (vs. Wolverhampton Wanderers)

Having been given his marching orders for a last-man foul on Alexander Isak at St James' Park, Van Dijk is due to serve a one-game ban this weekend, but he could be facing a lengthier suspension after being charged with improper conduct by the FA.
