Tim Sherwood: 'Aston Villa deserved to beat Liverpool'

Aston Villa boss Tim Sherwood believes that his side were worthy winners in their FA Cup semi-final against Liverpool.

Aston Villa manager Tim Sherwood has insisted that his side deserved to beat Liverpool in their FA Cup semi-final on Sunday.

Goals from Christian Benteke and Fabian Delph gave the Midlanders a 2-1 win over the Reds at Wembley and put them into their first final for 15 years.

Sherwood says that the Villa fans played their part in a famous victory.

"It's a great occasion for the football club," Sherwood told Sky Sports News. "Obviously nothing is won yet but not a lot of people gave us a chance coming here against Liverpool.

"We believed it and when we stepped on that pitch we realised our fans believed it as well and that means an awful lot to us. They were magnificent, especially when we went behind, they dragged us back into the game.

"I thought we dominated the football after that and caused Liverpool a lot of problems."

Villa will face Arsenal in the final on May 30.
