Jurgen Klopp unhappy with Simon Mignolet over Bordeaux error

Klopp unhappy with Mignolet over error

Jurgen Klopp has criticised Liverpool goalkeeper Simon Mignolet for his indecision following the error which led to Bordeaux's goal in Thursday's 2-1 Europa League win at Anfield.

Mignolet held on to the ball for more than 20 seconds - significantly more than the permitted six - before conceding an indirect free kick which Henri Saivet scored from on 33 minutes.

"I didn't understand it because we were the active team in this game," Reds boss Klopp told BT Sport.

"Twenty seconds with the ball? Okay. We have to decide whether to play build-up or long ball and sometimes you have to decide late.

"Usually the free kick won't be given. They made a goal, we got a penalty so it was an open game again. The easy games anyone can win, but this was a hard game so we're really lucky now."

The Reds broke level five minutes later when James Milner converted a penalty which Christian Benteke won, before the Belgian netted the winner shortly before half time.

Liverpool move into the knockout phases of the competition as a result of the win.
