West Ham transfer news: Hammers 'pushing to sign' Championship goalkeeper

Second-tier talent: West Ham 'pushing to sign' Championship goalkeeper

West Ham United are reportedly prepared to push ahead in their pursuit of Leicester City goalkeeper Mads Hermansen.

The 25-year-old was a consistent performer for the Foxes in the Premier League last season as they suffered relegation to the second tier.

That being said, Hermansen managed just a single clean sheet across 27 top-flight appearances during the 2024-25 season.

The Danish shot-stopper had an excellent debut term in the Championship for Leicester in 2023-24, conceding just 41 goals in 44 league fixtures.

Since making the switch from Brondby in the summer of 2023, Hermansen has turned out on 72 occasions for the East Midlands outfit.

West Ham pushing for Leicester star Hermansen?

According to Football Insider, West Ham are set to intensify their efforts to secure the services of Leicester man Hermansen.

The report claims that the Hammers are 'pushing' to sign the 25-year-old, who impressed in the Premier League last season.

It is understood that the capture of Hermansen is a top priority for West Ham coach Graham Potter, who is experiencing his first summer window at the London Stadium.

The East Londoners are in the market for a new shot-stopper following the departure of veteran 'keeper Lukasz Fabianski in June.

Alphonse Areola is currently the first-choice option for West Ham, although the Frenchman's displays have been criticised in recent times.

Leicester planning for the future

With the future of Hermansen in doubt, Leicester have moved proactively in the summer transfer market to recruit a potential replacement.

Leocester announced their first signing of the window on July 29, bringing in free agent Asmir Begovic, who will provide plenty of experience.

The 38-year-old is now likely to compete with Polish stopper Jakub Stolarczyk for the spot in between the sticks at the King Power Stadium this season.
