Claudio Ranieri determined to keep hold of Esteban Cambiasso

Claudio Ranieri admits that he may be forced to delve into the transfer market for "another leader" should Esteban Cambiasso leave Leicester City.

Leicester City boss Claudio Ranieri has admitted that he is eager to keep Esteban Cambiasso at the club beyond this summer.

The 34-year-old is now officially a free agent after his initial one-year deal at the King Power Stadium expired.

Cambiasso has been linked with a number of clubs in recent weeks, including local rivals Aston Villa, although his future still remains unclear.

Ranieri says that he has opened talks with the experienced midfielder, but may be forced to delve into the market should the former Argentina international move on.

"I spoke with Esteban," he told reporters. "I've known him since Inter and I told him 'I need you'. Now I need a yes or no. He's a leader, and if he's not here I need another leader."

Cambiasso made 31 appearances for Leicester in the Premier League last season, scoring five goals in his maiden campaign in English football.
