Leicester City's Kasper Schmeichel hails "massive" win over West Ham United

Kasper Schmeichel hails "massive" win

Leicester City goalkeeper Kasper Schmeichel has described his side's 2-1 victory over West Ham United on Saturday as a "massive" result for the club.

Andy King scored a late goal for the Foxes to end an eight-match winless streak after Esteban Cambiasso had earlier opened the scoring and David Nugent had missed a penalty.

Nigel Pearson's side remain bottom of the table, but Schmeichel believes that the result could be the catalyst needed to overhaul the six-point gap to safety.

"We're bottom of the league so it means a great deal. We battled so hard and we regrouped from missing the penalty. In the second half the lads gave such a big effort and we got what we deserved," Schmeichel told the club's official website.

"It was a tough game, the lads put their bodies on the line and we got some bumps and bruises in the dressing room. But all that is irrelevant when you win, it's a fantastic feeling.

"It's massive. It's a step on the way. We're buzzing but we're not at all getting carried away. It's a step, a good start but we're very happy."

Leicester, who face West Bromwich Albion at the weekend, have at least one game in hand over the teams around them in the table.
