Leicester City's Claudio Ranieri: Newcastle United win "the performance I want"

Leicester City manager Claudio Ranieri expresses his delight at his side's performance in their 3-0 victory over Newcastle United at St James' Park.

Leicester City manager Claudio Ranieri has expressed his delight at his side's performance in their 3-0 victory over Newcastle United this afternoon.

The Foxes took three points from St James' Park thanks to goals from Jamie Vardy, Leonardo Ulloa and Shinji Okazaki, and Ranieri believes that his side's teamwork has allowed them to reach the top of the Premier League table at this stage of the season.

"That's the performance I want," Ranieri told reporters after the game. "The guys are slowly understanding my philosophy and we play like a team.

"It's good to be where we are, but I want to see the horses at the end of the race, not now."

Vardy's goal was his 10th in 10 league games, equalling the record of former Manchester United striker Ruud van Nistelrooy, and Ranieri was eager to praise the 28-year-old's contribution.

"I'm pleased for Jamie Vardy to equal the record of a great champion. It's good for him. It's good for the team."

Leicester will take on Manchester United next Saturday at the King Power Stadium.
