Claudio Ranieri: 'Leicester City wanted to help Jamie Vardy break record'

Claudio Ranieri says that Leicester City are delighted that Jamie Vardy broke Ruud van Nistelrooy's goalscoring record after scoring in his 11th consecutive game.

Claudio Ranieri has said that the Leicester City team wanted to help Jamie Vardy break a Premier League goalscoring record.

Vardy scored in his 11th consecutive match to break Ruud van Nistelrooy's record during Leicester's 1-1 draw against Manchester United.

"I'm very, very happy. We wanted to win today, but also we wanted to help Jamie achieve the record. Well done to my players for helping Jamie Vardy to score," Ranieri told BBC Sport.

"I'm very happy we have Vardy as our striker - we want to keep him here for a long time. I hope Vardy continues these very good performances."

Vardy has already broken the Leicester City record for most goals in a Premier League season.
