Nigel Pearson hoping to keep Esteban Cambiasso

Nigel Pearson hopes that he can convince Esteban Cambiasso to stay at Leicester City after proving to be a big a factor in the club's Premier League survival.

Nigel Pearson is hopeful that he can convince veteran midfielder Esteban Cambiasso to stay at Leicester City.

Cambiasso, 34, is coming to the end of his one-year deal after helping City to Premier League survival in a whirlwind season at the King Power Stadium.

The ex-Real Madrid and Inter Milan ace turned heads when he decided to join in August, and Pearson admits that the Foxes' close shave with relegation may act as a deterrent for him.

"We'd love him to be a part of our season again next year, but as always with players like him that have experienced some pretty amazing periods and have a great CV, it is difficult to know psychologically how much a season like this takes it out of someone who's never experienced it before," he told reporters.

"We don't want to be in this situation again next year. It would be great for him to be a part of it and he's proven throughout the season that he brings an awful to a Premier League side, even at his age.

"The reception he got [from the home fans] was fabulous and he'll be aware of that but also he'll need time to think and we'll allow him that."

The Argentine marked what will perhaps prove his last game for the club with a goal in Sunday's end-of-season 5-1 thumping of Queens Park Rangers.
