Nigel Pearson: 'Leicester City still have work to do to ensure Premier League survival'

Leicester manager Nigel Pearson stresses that his side still has work to do to survive in the Premier League despite a sixth win in seven against Southampton.

Leicester City manager Nigel Pearson has claimed that his side still has "work to do" to avoid relegation from the Premier League, despite Saturday's 2-0 home win against Southampton.

The Foxes were a seemingly unassailable seven points from safety with nine games to go back in March, but a run of six wins in seven has seen them climb to 15th in the table and three points above the drop zone.

Pearson told BBC Sport: "When you get to Christmas with the position we were in we were hoping we'd get to the final day with it still being in our hands. We have had a fantastic run but have work to do.

"The players continue to work hard, believe in ourselves. Throughout the season we played to a level where the results didn't always reflect our performances. The fans stuck with us, they've seen enough to suggest we've got performances in us.

"This run's been phenomenal really. Look at Sunderland's [2-0] win at Everton, it shows you can't really compare seasons. With 37 points we are still having to fight hard."

Leicester's penultimate fixture of their season is away at Sunderland next weekend.
