Nigel Pearson distraught by Leicester City defeat

Pearson distraught by Leicester defeat

Leicester City manager Nigel Pearson has admitted that his side could not have lost in a worse way following their Championship playoff semi-final defeat to Watford.

The Foxes would have booked their place in the final if Anthony Knockaert had scored an injury-time penalty at Vicarage Road on Sunday, but his spot kick was saved before Troy Deeney bagged a winner at the other end for the home side.

Deeney's goal saw Watford win 3-1 on the day, giving them a 3-2 aggregate victory over the two-legged tie.

"I can't imagine a worse way to lose," Pearson told Sky Sports News.

"When you get a penalty you just hope he scores it - then what happened after that compounds the misery. Unfortunately that's the nature of the beast."

Watford will face either Brighton & Hove Albion or Crystal Palace in the final at Wembley Stadium.
