Riyad Mahrez focused on securing Leicester City's Premier League status

Riyad Mahrez insists that Leicester City, who top the Premier League after a 3-0 victory away to Swansea City, must concentrate solely on reaching the 40-point mark.

Claudio Ranieri's Leicester City returned to the top of the Premier League on Saturday but Riyad Mahrez has stated that the Foxes' main aim must be to secure their Premier League status.

The Leicester attacker scored all three goals in a comfortable 3-0 victory over Swansea City at the Liberty Stadium.

"It is the perfect day today. We won, we're top of the league and I scored a hat-trick to help the team win so I am happy," Mahrez told Sky Sports News following the victory.

"It is the first hat-trick of small career, little career," Mahrez added with a smile regarding his three strikes which culminated in the first hat-trick of the Algerian's career.

However, the winger emphasised the importance of retaining the Foxes' Premier League status before looking towards anything else: "The most important thing for us is to reach 40, 42 points. Then afterwards, if we get these points, we can speak about something else but at the moment we want to reach that target."

The Foxes now sit on top of the league table, two points ahead of closest rivals Arsenal.
