Leganes vs Deportivo - prediction, team news, lineups

Leganes will be looking to record their first victory of the 2025-26 Segunda Division season when they welcome Deportivo La Coruna to Butarque Stadium on Monday night.

The home side are 14th in the Segunda Division table, picking up two points from their opening two matches, while Deportivo occupy ninth, having collected four points from their first two matches.

Match preview

Leganes were relegated from La Liga last season, with a disappointing campaign seeing them pick up just 49 points from their 38 matches, but they were incredibly close to remaining in the division.

Indeed, El Lega were only one point behind 17th-placed Sevilla and actually just two points behind Getafe in 13th, so it could have been very different for them last season, but they are back in the Segunda Division.

Now under the management of Paco Lopez, Leganes opened their campaign with a 1-1 draw against Huesca, before playing out the same scoreline with Cadiz last time out.

The Madrid outfit are therefore looking for their first victory of the season this weekend, and this will incredibly be just the fifth time that Leganes and Deportivo have locked horns throughout history.

The last meeting between the two sides came in April 2018 in La Liga, with the points shared in a goalless draw.

Deportivo's sole success over Leganes came at home during the 2017-18 La Liga campaign, and they are now unbeaten in their last two with Monday's opponents having lost their opening two.

The visitors started their 2025-26 Segunda Division campaign with an impressive 3-1 victory over Granada, before drawing 0-0 with Burgos last time out, and four points from two matches has left them ninth in the table.

The Blue and Whites famously won La Liga in 1999-2000, in addition to reaching the semi-finals of the Champions League in 2003-04, but it has been a difficult few years for the club.

Deportivo incredibly played in the third tier of Spanish football between 2020 and 2024, but they earned promotion back to the Segunda Division in 2023-24 and then finished 15th in the second tier last season.

It is a big ask for Antonio Hidalgo's side to challenge for promotion this season, but improvements will be expected from last season, with Deportivo a huge club in Spanish football.

Team News

Leganes have not reported any fresh injury concerns ahead of this match, and there is again expected to be a spot in the final third of the field for Miguel de la Fuente.

The striker found it difficult to make his mark in La Liga last season, but he did score 13 times in the second tier during the 2023-24 campaign and could be a vital player for the hosts this term.

There should also be another start in a wide area for Naim Garcia, who is already off the mark in terms of goals this season.

As for Deportivo, Zakaria Eddahchouri is set to continue through the middle for the visitors, while there should also be a spot in a 4-2-3-1 formation for Luismi Cruz.

Diego Villares is the captain and will again be in line for a spot in the middle of the midfield, with Charlie Patino and Mohamed Bouldini set to feature among the substitutes for the first whistle.

Deportivo also have no fresh injury issues, with their squad in strong shape at the start of the new season.

Leganes possible starting lineup:

Soriano; Pena, Saenz, Aguilar, Marvel; N Garcia, Diawara, Cisse, Duk; D Garcia, De la Fuente

Deportivo La Coruna possible starting lineup:

Parreno; Loureiro, Comas, Barcia, Escudero; Gragera, Villares; Cruz, Soriano, Hernandez; Eddahchouri

We say: Leganes 2-1 Deportivo La Coruna

Leganes are expected to be among the challengers for promotion this season, and their home form will be crucial to that. Deportivo are capable of making this a close match, but we are backing the hosts to claim all three points.
