Former Southampton boss Mauricio Pellegrino is appointed as the new manager of La Liga outfit Leganes.

Leganes have announced that they have appointed Mauricio Pellegrino as the club's new boss.

Last summer, Pellegrino made the decision to leave Alaves before taking over at Southampton, but the Argentine lasted just nine months at St Mary's with eight wins coming from 34 matches.

However, the 46-year-old has been handed a quick return to the dugout with Leganes, who finished in 17th position in the La Liga table this season.

However, Los Pepineros finished 14 points clear of the relegation zone while also reaching the semi-finals of the Copa del Rey.

Pellegrino has been handed a one-year contract at the Estadio Municipal de Butarque.
