Leeds United pushing to sign Wigan Athletic youngster Joe Gelhardt?

Leeds United are reportedly close to winning the race to sign Wigan Athletic youngster Joe Gelhardt.

Despite only turning 18 in May, Gelhardt has already been provided with two starts and 19 substitute outings in all competitions.

The emergence of the teenager has led to the likes of Liverpool, Chelsea and Tottenham Hotspur being linked with a bid over the past 12 months.

However, according to The Sun, Leeds are on the brink of getting a deal over the line for just £1m.

Wigan's administration and relegation to League One will result in a wave of sales being made in order to meet other costs, including the wages of the first-team squad.

Youngster Jensen Weir has already linked up with Brighton & Hove Albion, while Rangers have moved to sign Leon Balogun.
