FA blocks Sheffield Wednesday's move for Rodolph Austin

The FA block Rodolph Austin's potential move to Sheffield Wednesday due to new rules regarding work permits for foreign players.

Former Leeds United midfielder Rodolph Austin has seen a move to Sheffield Wednesday break down due to the FA's new rules on work permits.

Austin, who was released by Leeds at the end of last season, had reportedly been offered a deal by the Owls, only to see the move blocked by the FA.

Speaking to The Yorkshire Evening Post, Austin's agent said: "Rudy has spent the summer playing in the Copa America and then helping Jamaica get to the Gold Cup final.

"He has proved himself as a genuine top Championship performer, there were six big clubs who wanted to sign him. But we found out yesterday that the new rules mean they won't allow him a new work permit, which has been a big disappointment.

"His son was born here, Rudy only had two years to stay before he qualified for citizenship and he really wanted to stay and make a life in Britain."

The 30-year-old joined the Elland Road outfit in 2012, making 112 appearances and scoring 10 goals.
