Lewis Cook: 'I will not walk back into Leeds United team'

Lewis Cook does not think that he will "walk straight back" into the Leeds United team after serving a three-match ban.

Leeds United midfielder Lewis Cook has insisted that he will not get straight back into the team after serving a three-game suspension.

Cook has missed the Championship matches against Reading, Bristol City and Sheffield Wednesday, all draws, after receiving a straight red card for a rash challenge in the Capital One Cup first-round defeat to Doncaster Rovers.

The 18-year-old admitted to the club website that it was a "silly" tackle and that he would learn from it.

"It's a learning curve from me and I'll bounce back from it, I'm sure," he said. "It was a bit silly for me to dive in but it's gone now and I've got to concentrate on the season ahead."

With fellow youngster Kalvin Phillips impressing in Cook's absence, as well as Luke Murphy waiting to make his first start of the season, Cook knows that he is not assured of a place in Uwe Rosler's starting XI on Saturday as Leeds travel to Derby County.

"I don't expect to just walk straight back into the team. I'll try my hardest – it's not going to be easy," he added.

Cook broke into the Leeds first team last season, making 38 appearances in all competitions for the Whites.
