Roma earn late win over Lazio

Roma seal a second-place finish in Serie A with a late win in the Rome derby against Lazio.

Roma have secured a second-place finish in the Serie A table thanks to a late 2-1 win over local rivals Lazio.

The hosts dominated for much of what was a feisty first half, but they struggled to turn their superiority into clear-cut chances.

Lazio came close to taking the lead with just seven minutes played when Miroslav Klose headed narrowly wide, while Lucas Biglia was denied by Morgan De Sanctis soon after.

However, the only other meaningful opportunity fell the way of Antonio Candreva, who saw an effort deflected wide inside a crowded penalty area.

A lively second period saw Dusan Basta fire narrowly wide for Lazio before the full-back came to his side's rescue at the other end when he blocked Alessandro Florenzi's goal-bound shot at the other end. The resulting corner almost produced a goal for Roma, but Victor Ibarbo could only poke wide from close range.

Roma eventually made the breakthrough on 73 minutes when Juan Iturbe found the bottom corner after being picked out by Ibarbo in the box.

Lazio bagged themselves an equaliser 10 minutes later through Filip Djordjevic as the substitute finished off a slick passing move by blasting the ball past De Sanctis.

The decisive moment came just five minutes from time as Yanga-Mbiwa glanced Miralem Pjanic's free kick into the back of the net for his first goal of the season.
