Shinji Kagawa: 'Japan must improve'

Shinji Kagawa tells his Japan teammates that they must improve upon recent performances if they are to collect positive results at the World Cup.

Shinji Kagawa has conceded that Japan must make improvements if they are to have an impact at the upcoming World Cup.

The Asian outfit recorded a 4-3 victory over Zambia last night on the back of a 3-1 success over England's group opponents Costa Rica.

However, Manchester United playmaker Kagawa has admitted that while recent friendly results have been positive, the performances that have accompanied them have not been of the standard required to win matches in Brazil.

"Our quality, both for myself and for us as a team, was not very good today. Had this been the first match in the World Cup, it could have been a difficult situation to turn the match around from 2-0 down. It was perhaps good that this happened before the tournament," the 25-year-old told reporters.

"We need to get into shape once we get to Brazil. But with my mind focused for another week before the World Cup starts, I know I will be ready."

Japan have been drawn in a group alongside Colombia, Greece and Ivory Coast.
