Italy, Germany share the spoils

Ignazio Abate cancels out a Mats Hummels header as Italy extend their 18-year unbeaten record against Germany with a 1-1 draw at San Siro.

Italy have preserved their 18-year undefeated streak against Germany following the 1-1 draw with Joachim Low's men at San Siro.

The Azzurri, who are unbeaten against their German counterparts since 1995, saw that record threatened as early as the eighth minute when Mats Hummels headed the visitors into the lead.

The Borussia Dortmund defender rose highest from a corner to head past goalkeeper Gianluigi Buffon via the post.

Die Mannschaaft enjoyed the lead for some 20 minutes, before Cesare Prandelli's men hit back in style.

Ignazio Abate exchanged a neat one-two with Thiago Motta on the edge of the area, before unleashing a left-footed drive past Manuel Neuer to restore parity and register his first international goal in the process.

Both international giants struggled in their attempts to find the winner as the spoils were ultimately shared.
