Chiellini hopeful of Euro 2016 "joy"

Italy defender Giorgio Chiellini has said that he hopes to experience Euro 2016 with "joy" after the terror attacks in Paris last week.

At least 129 people are reported to have died in the atrocities that occurred in the French capital, as the national team played against Germany at the Stade de France.

Chiellini's Juventus teammate Patrice Evra was involved in that match, and the defender has spoken of the moment he learned about the scale of what had happened.

"We started to get the news after the game against Belgium," Chiellini told reporters. "We watched what happened with dismay. We saw the clip with Evra [where a bomb explodes during the France-Germany match], and I think they didn't even realise [what was happening] at that time.

"I was struck by the fact that Germany slept in the dressing room, it made us understand the situation.

"Hopefully it will be an important warning for the event in June, we hope to experience the Euros with joy."

France are due to take on England in a friendly at Wembley on Tuesday evening.
