Wales beat 10-man Israel to top Group B

Wales move to the top of Group B with a 3-0 win over 10-man Israel in their Euro 2016 qualifier.

Wales have moved to the top of Group B following a 3-0 win over Israel in their Euro 2016 qualifier on Saturday.

Aaron Ramsey and a Gareth Bale brace saw the visitors, who have collected 11 points from their five group matches, claim victory.

Wales had the first sight of goal after eight minutes following good work down the right, but Ramsey could only poke wide during what was a end-to-end start.

Bale was next to come close for the visitors after driving through the heart of the Israel defence, but the Real Madrid attacker dragged his effort wide of the post.

Israel continued to press high, but it was Wales that remained the most threatening, with Ramsey and Joe Allen both forcing the issue in the final third.

James Collins had a good chance to send Wales ahead after 19 minutes, but somehow the centre-back could not make telling contact from a Bale cross and Israel managed to clear.

Wales remained on the front foot with Bale and Hal Robson-Kanu both having half-chances, but Lior Refaelov came close for Israel on the counter after 25 minutes.

Eran Zahavi was next to threaten for the home side, but Wayne Hennessey was on hand to produce an important save.

Wales took the lead in first-half stoppage time, however, when Ramsey looped a header over Ofir Marciano.

The visitors had their second after 50 minutes when Bale bent a free kick into the top corner after being brought to the ground by Eitan Tibi, who picked up a yellow for the first challenge, before being sent off for a similar foul on Bale just two minutes later.

Bale had another excellent opportunity to make it 3-0 after 54 minutes, but the attacker could only fire wide of the near post.

A sloppy period for Wales allowed Israel to threaten in the final third, but Bebras Natcho twice had attempts blocked as Chris Coleman's side defended their own six-yard box.

Sam Vokes come close to capping his Wales return with a goal after 71 minutes, but the Burnley forward was denied from close range. Ben Sahar then set up Tomer Hemed down the other end, but Hennessey was on hand to make a smart save.

Wales made sure of the points after 77 minutes when Ramsey set up Bale for his second of the match from close range.

Sahar had the chance to add a consolation for Israel late on, but Hennessey made a fine save to keep Wales's clean sheet in tact.
