Ipswich Town's Freddie Sears hoping for starting lineup berth

Freddie Sears is hoping to be a regular member of the Ipswich Town starting lineup following his move from Colchester United.

New Ipswich Town striker Freddie Sears has expressed his determination to earn a regular place in Mick McCarthy's starting lineup.

The 25-year-old, who arrived at Portman Road from Colchester United last week, is one of four senior strikers at McCarthy's disposal, with Daryl Murphy and David McGoldrick in particular showing good form this season.

However, Sears has welcomed the competition and is hopeful that it can inspire him to produce some positive displays for the Tractor Boys.

"Everyone wants to play and it's always good to have competition for places. I've only been down the road and I've followed the form of Murphy and McGoldrick. I've obviously seen Noel Hunt score two at the weekend as well," the East Anglian Daily Times quotes Sears as saying.

"They are all really good players and it's going to be tough to get in the team, but I will try and give the gaffer something to think about.

"Whenever my opportunity comes I'll try and take it. I do think I'll give something different to the strikers that are here."

Sears scored 14 goals for Colchester this term prior to his move to Ipswich.
