Inverness Caledonian Thistle secured a fifth-place finish in the Scottish Premiership table with a 2-0 win over St Johnstone this afternoon.

The home side hit St Johnstone on the break after just seven minutes, but Greg Tansey's shot was well blocked by the defence.

The Saints had a chance on 14 minutes when Michael O'Halloran broke through the middle, but his strike was saved comfortably.

Ryan Christie came close again for Inverness on 25 minutes with a 30-yard strike that went just wide of the post.

Christie game the home side the lead on 59 minutes, pouncing on a rebound in the area to head home from six yards out to make it 1-0.

Aaron Doran almost made it 2-0 on 68 minutes, but his goalbound effort was cleared off the line by the defence to keep the score at 1-0.

Tansey secured the points for Inverness a minute into injury time, cutting inside on the break and firing home.
