Last-ditch Jordan Rhodes rescues point for Blackburn Rovers

Last-ditch Rhodes rescues point for Rovers

Blackburn Rovers needed a 91st-minute equaliser from Jordan Rhodes to secure a 1-1 draw at Hull City in the Championship.

Both sides struggled to create chances in the opening stages, but the visitors threatened in the 10th minute when Craig Conway's cross caused panic in the Tigers' penalty area before drifting behind for a goal kick.

There was a half-chance for Hull moments later as Ahmed Elmohamady's cross was headed towards goal by Abel Hernandez, but the Uruguayan was only able to nod high and wide.

Rovers goalkeeper Jason Steele was the busier of the two stoppers in the first period, pulling off saves to deny Curtis Davies at his near post and Elmohamady from distance moments later.

Blackburn's best chance to snatch a goal against the run of play came when Alan McGregor kept out a Rhodes header at full stretch, five minutes before the referee brought the first half to a close.

Hull went right back onto the front foot in the second period, Tom Huddlestone testing Steele's mettle with a vicious volley moments after the restart.

There was another chance for the Tigers in the 59th minute when Huddlestone's cross was not properly cleared, falling kindly for Mohamed Diame to smash towards goal, but he missed the target.

The pressure finally gave in the 73rd minute when Elmohamady played in a cross from wide on the right and Hernandez was on hand to scramble the ball over the line and give Hull the lead.

The Tigers continued to control the match into the dying stages but were left stunned in stoppage time when Rhodes nodded home a late corner to snatch a point for the visitors.
