Barmby announces retirement from playing

Hull City caretaker manager Nick Barmby has announced his retirement from playing football.

The 37-year-old had taken a coaching and playing role after the departure of Nigel Pearson to Leicester City.

The former England international is expected to be announced as the full-time manager at the KC Stadium over the weekend.

Barmby played for a number of clubs, including Tottenham Hotspur, Liverpool and Everton, during a 21-year professional career.

Hull are currently sixth in the Championship table.
