Manager Steve Bruce made nine changes from the side that lost 2-0 to Liverpool on New Year's Day, but they made light of the upheaval with a comfortable victory against the Championship side.

Aaron McLean's 10th-minute goal gave the Tigers the advantage when he scored after 10 minutes by beating Dimitrios Konstantopoulos with a right-footed effort after David Meyler's blocked effort fell into the striker's path.

Curtis Main had a decent chance for the home side five minutes before the break, but he was unable to convert as the Tigers held on to go in at the break a goal to the good.

Nick Proschwitz added a second just after the hour mark when George Boyd cut it back for the 27-year-old to hammer home.

Hull maintained their dominance throughout and were well worth the result that secured their passage into the fourth round.
