Huddersfield Town hold on to beat Charlton Athletic

Goals from James Vaughan and Joel Lynch give Huddersfield Town a 2-1 win against Charlton Athletic.

Huddersfield Town have beaten Charlton Athletic 2-1 at the John Smith's Stadium.

Jonathan Stead fired wide after the ball fell to him in Charlton's penalty area, but Huddersfield had the majority of the early possession.

The away side failed to make the most of a good crossing position when Lawrie Wilson overhit his pass to Marvin Sordell.

Sean Scannell was then played in by Stead, but his effort was poor and went wide.

The Terriers were the stronger team in the first 30 minutes, but again Scannell missed the target despite good work to beat his marker.

James Vaughan smacked the crossbar with an overhead kick but the referee had already blown his whistle for a foul.

However, the striker did score just before the break as he headed in Adam Hammill's cross.

The second half began slowly for both teams, although the Terriers were still on top.

However, with an hour gone, Joel Lynch picked up the ball and fired straight into the top corner for his second goal of the season.

Despite more pressure from Huddersfield, Charlton managed to find a way back into the game with Hull City loanee Cameron Stewart hitting a great shot past Alex Smithies.

The away side pressured the home defence in the closing minutes, but Huddersfield held on to secure the points.
