David Wagner "gutted" after defeat to Leicester City

Huddersfield Town manager David Wagner does not believe that fatigue played any part in his side's second-half collapse away to Leicester City.

David Wagner has admitted to being "gutted" by the manner of Huddersfield Town's 3-0 defeat at the hands of Leicester City on New Year's Day.

The Terriers struggled to contain their opponents in the second half of the match at the King Power Stadium, conceding t goals from Islam Slimani and Marc Albrighton after Riyad Mahrez opened the scoring 53 minutes in.

Despite a run of four games in nine days, during which Town failed to pick up a victory, Wagner does not believe that fatigue played any part in his side's heavy loss.

"I don't think my players were tired. Maybe in the second half it looked like this was the case, but in the first half we played well," BBC Sport quotes him as saying.

"We controlled the game and had the best chance of the first half. In the second half, we made an error before the first goal and left Riyad Mahrez alone.

"Unfortunately we lost our focus and concentration, we were 1-0 down and had to open up, left some spaces, which they used. I am gutted today because I think there was something in this game for us. In the end we have to say they deserve to win."

Huddersfield, back in league action with a home match against West Ham United on January 13, have now failed to find the net in eight of their 11 away fixtures in the Premier League.
