MK Dons' Daniel Powell cancels out Jordan Rhodes opener as Huddersfield Town look to secure a place in the League One playoff final.

Huddersfield Town have extended their aggregate lead over MK Dons to 3-1 to take a step closer to the League One playoff final following a tight first half which ended 1-1 at the Galpharm Stadium.

MK Dons started brightly as Karl Robinson's team tried to make a dent in Huddersfield's 2-0 lead.

The visitors had claims for a penalty rejected just seven minutes into the match as Charlie MacDonald tangled with peter Clarke just inside the area.

Despite MK Dons' good start Huddersfield had the first clear chance of the match when Lee Novak found space on the edge of the box but he dragged his shot wide.

The hosts managed to take the lead in the 18th minute when a long ball into the box fell to Jordan Rhodes and the prolific striker let the ball come across him before firing in his 40th goal of the season.

Robinson's team responded well to the setback and finally started to stretch Huddersfield's defence.

The Dons were rewarded for their efforts just seven minutes before the break as Daniel Powell collected the ball on the edge of the box before turning and bending a shot past substitute keeper Alex Smithies who had only been on the pitch for a matter of moments following an injury to Ian Bennet.

As the first period drew to a close, MK Dons could have taken the lead when a cross was delivered towards MacDonald but the forward seemed to be pushed as he attempted to turn the ball in from close range despite the referee waving away protests.
