Go Ahead Eagles vs. ADO Den Haag - prediction, team news, lineups

Aiming to extend their unbeaten start to the new Eredivisie season, Go Ahead Eagles welcome ADO Den Haag to De Adelaarshorst on Sunday for matchday three's encounter.

The hosts have accrued four points from six, while the promoted side are still winless after two gameweeks, having let in six goals and scored just one, highlighting their challenge in Deventer.

Match preview

Last season ended with Go Ahead Eagles winning just one of their last seven games, effectively putting paid to Melvin Boel's one-season spell.

That led to Joseph Oosting's appointment, and the Dutchman has got off to a promising start at the 2025 KNVB Cup champions, securing four points from their first two matches.

Undeniably standing out for Kowet is their free-scoring nature: they netted four in matchday one's 4-1 hammering of Willem II and held Feyenoord to a 2-2 draw last time out, the latter seeing the Pride of the IJssel fighting back from 2-0 down.

Soren Tengstedt and Stefan Ingi Sigurdarson netted in the 63rd and 80th minutes to claw out a draw in Rotterdam to preserve their undefeated start, and both aim to be as decisive when their team play host to the league returnees.

Entering Sunday a week on from the comeback, Oosting's men are favourites to extend their unbeaten start to the campaign at Den Haag's expense.

Last season's second division winners have not had the finest starts to the campaign after ending their five-year absence from the competition, falling to defeats in matchdays one and two.

The Storks let in two in their opening-day loss to AZ Alkmaar before shipping four in gameweek two's 4-1 hammering at the hands of Groningen.

Robin Peter's men have yet to find their feet in the big time, with De Residentieclub losing 2-0 to AZ after holding out for the opening hour, but conceding three in the opening half at home to Groningen, including two in the first 30 minutes, to leave them chasing their tail.

With just one goal scored so far and six conceded, Peter's side are effectively facing issues at both ends of the pitch, after having thrived in both boxes during their outstanding Eerste Divisie campaign.

While it is still far too soon to be going Chicken Little for the newboys, claiming their first point or securing their first victory will calm any early-season nerves as they hope to retain their top-flight status in nine months.

Team News

Kowet are without the injured Gerrit Nauber (leg), Julius Dirksen, Robbin Weijenberg (knee), Tomas Galvez and Pim Saathof (Cruciate ligament tear) for Sunday's match.

Tengstedt enters matchday three as the joint-leading scorer in the embryonic campaign after having netted four times in five pre-season games, and the in-form attacker seeks to continue his fine form.

Mathis Suray has so far assisted two goals, also a joint-high in the Eredivisie, and the attacking midfielder could end gameweek three as the overall leader if he sets up another.

Jalen Hawkins is absent for ADO due to a hamstring problem, while Donat Barany and Cameron Peupion are sidelined with knee issues.

Kilian Nikiema notably conceded four goals last time out despite making a staggering 10 saves, highlighting the Storks' leaky rearguard, which Kowet will look to exploit.

Peter at least would have been pleased to see summer arrival Yannick Eduardo score for the first time, and the manager will hope for another commendable showing from the young forward.

Go Ahead Eagles possible starting lineup:

Haug; Sampsted, Van Zwam, Kramer, James; Linthorst, Rahmouni; Tengstedt, Edvardsen, Suray; Flataker

ADO Den Haag possible starting lineup:

Nikiema; Hokke, Mulder, Waem, Sylla; Van Mieghem, De Bruin, Kilo, De Ruijter; Rottier, Eduardo

We say: Go Ahead Eagles 3-1 ADO Den Haag

Although the newly promoted visitors will be desperate to stop the rot after conceding six goals in two games, their fragile backline faces a daunting test against one of the league's most clinical attacks after two matches.

With Tengstedt in red-hot scoring form and the hosts brimming with confidence after fighting back at De Kuip, Oosting's men should comfortably claim maximum points at De Adelaarshorst.
