Joachim Low praises Germany for keeping Cristiano Ronaldo quiet in their 4-0 win over Portugal on Monday.

Germany manager Joachim Low has praised his players for handling the threat posed by Cristiano Ronaldo in the 4-0 victory over Portugal on Monday.

Ronaldo struggled to stamp his authority on the match as Portugal began their Group G campaign with a crushing defeat, but Low was keen to focus on his own side's defensive achievements after the game.

"The team played well and didn't let Portugal have many chances," the 54-year-old told reporters.

"We played at high pace in the first half to get our chances. It's important to prevent Ronaldo from getting a run going because he's very dangerous then."

Germany meet Ghana in their second fixture on Saturday evening.

Thomas Muller celebrates scoring his hattrick for Germany in their World Cup opening game against Portugal on June 16, 2014.
