Gomez: 'I wanted to start'

Germany striker Mario Gomez has admitted that he had hoped to start against Greece at Euro 2012.

Gomez, who was relegated to the bench in favour of forward Miroslav Klose, believes that he would have scored his fourth goal in four games had he been included in the starting lineup.

"The coach names the team and we have to accept it," he said. "That's what I did.

"Of course I wanted to [start]. I think I would have scored, but that's not important. Miroslav Klose did well. Now we just have to see what happens in the next game."

Germany beat Greece 4-2 to book a spot in the semi-finals.
