Genoa see off Hellas Verona in seven-goal thriller

Genoa continue their charge up the Serie A table by beating Hellas Verona 5-2 at the Stadio Luigi Ferraris.

Genoa claimed successive wins in Serie A for the first time this year by beating Hellas Verona 5-2 in a thrilling encounter this afternoon.

The hosts took the lead in the 10th minute when Alessandro Agostini touched Zakarya Bergdich's cross into his own net.

They scored a second just two minutes later as M'Baye Niang was on hand to slot home Iago Falque's delivery across the box.

Juanito almost pulled a goal back for the visitors when he was slipped through on goal before lifting an effort over Mattia Perin and wide of the far post.

Verona did manage to find the net in the 20th minute as Luca Toni rose highest from a corner to power in a header.

However, Genoa restored their two-goal lead through Niang on the half-hour mark, with the striker heading Edenilson's cross past Francesco Benussi for his second goal of the match.

Toni pulled another goal back for the visitors in the 57th minute when he slotted home from Emil Hallfredsson's cross.

Moments later, Juanito came within inches of levelling the scores, but his powerful effort came crashing back off the post.

Andrea Bertolacci soon made Verona pay for that miss as he collected the ball just outside the box before curling a strike into the far corner.

Diego Perotti grabbed a fifth for Genoa with four minutes left to play, curling a strike beyond the reach of Benussi to finally wrap up the three points.
